December 8th, 2009:   “Speak Softly and Carry a Small Stick: The Art of the Conductor” Tuesday, December 8th, from 5:30pm to 7pm

Imagine that you are sitting in an audience, watching a penguin with a baton, standing in front of 114 other penguins, all with musical instruments in their flippers. Suddenly, you are the penguin at which all of the others are staring. Now imagine you are standing in front of a 114-piece orchestra with nothing but a small white stick in your hand. What next? Do you scream, stamp your feet, or close your eyes and simply pray?

Join us in discovering just what the person behind the baton really does! Our presenter, Roy Rogosin, has a unique perspective for a conductor. He has conducted for motion pictures, television, celebrities (including Johnny Mathis and composer Michel Legrand), the stage…and the White House. He has conducted internationally in Europe, South America, and Asia, as well as throughout the United States.

Join us for what we know will be an informative, fun (and probably gossipy) explication of “The Art of the Conductor.” We are delighted that this will be the first guild program to be presented in collaboration with RainbowVision Santa Fe at RainbowVision, 500 Rodeo Road , Santa Fe 87505 Guild members may attend free of charge. RainbowVision residents: $5; Non-members: $10 To reserve your seat, RSVP by December 1st (as space is limited) to: EducationVP@santafeoperaguild.org or (505) 629-1410 ext. 11 One-year Guild membership is available at the door: $35 (single); $60 (double) A no-host cash bar will be open during the meeting. Parking is available anywhere except reserved spaces. —————————————————————————————————————–
