Dorothy Has Friends in Santa Fe

Fast forward to the present. We are here! And we are queer! No longer feeling the need for secrecy, Friends of Dorothy gatherings have become a huge social network across the globe and its presence in Santa Fe is no different. The group meets once a month on Friday’s at 6pm onwards and is attended by 200 – 250 members of Santa Fe’s gay community.

It is hosted by a different venue each month including such places as Ecantado Resort, Las Posada, Inn and Spa at Loretto,  Santa Fe Capital Grill, Bishops Lodge Resort & Spa just to name a few. The hosting company generously supplies the group with an array of appetizers.

In the winter months we enjoy the warmth of the roaring fires inside while watching the snow gently fall on Santa Fe. During the summer months we gather outside sipping cocktails while watching the gorgeous Santa Fe sunsets magically appear before setting behind the mountains. Finally the clear night overhead gives way to millions of stars which is not to be missed.

Friends of Dorothy is a great opportunity to meet new friends, see old friends and connect with Santa Fe’s gay community in a beautiful setting.  If you are visiting Santa Fe and want information on attending  or for more information on enjoying the Gay Life in Santa Fe CLICK HERE

Gay Ski Week Santa Fe

There are a lot of good reasons to live in Santa Fe. But one of my favorites is for the snow skiing and there are a lot of choices when doing so.  An hour and a half from Santa Fe is Taos Ski Valley, and in 2 hours you can be at both Angel Fire Resort or Red River ski areas.  But for us Santa Feans,  Ski Santa Fe is just a 15 mile drive  from the Plaza at Santa Fe boasting some of the best skiing in the Southwest. Just another way to enjoy the Gay Life in Santa Fe.

Events: Winter in Santa Fe

My drivewayWhat a great day in Santa Fe as I have awakened to five inches of snow on the ground. And I am sure even more fell up on the ski mountain. Yes, Santa Fe has a ski resort! People are often surprised to find this out.

What most people don’t know is that Santa Fe has a true four seasons. July is our hottest month with an average temperature of 85 degrees and lows at night in the 50’s which is absolutely wonderful. Autumn and spring are just as they should be as they help transition the change of seasons and winter is picture perfect.

We receive a good handful of snowfalls in town each year of 2-4 inches, just enough to be picturesque but at the same time just sufficient that it is gone in a day or two.  Of course up at the ski basin they receive much more for us skiers to enjoy all ski season long.

Ski Santa Fe is only 15 miles from the Plaza and makes for a convenient day of skiing. Offering an assortment of beginner, intermediate and expert runs, there is plenty of fun for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities to enjoy the gay life in Santa Fe.

For enjoying breaks, there is the inside and outside grill located at the base of the mountain as well as a rustic, cabin “bar and grill” named Totemoff’s located up the mountain right on the slopes themselves.

It’s the drinks though, that make Totemoff’s the place to kick a bit of snow off the old boots, loosen those bindings and take in the scenery. It’s a great place to meet some new friends from out town and hang out with your local friends as well.

It is here that everyone — skier, snowboarder, native Santa Fean, import or tourist — mixes and mingles over their love of winter and the need for a little warmth. So, when you don’t find me out showing real estate to buyers or helping sellers list their house, you will most assuredly find me hanging out with my friends skiing a few runs.

And when I need to warm up you will find my enjoying a “Totemoff’s Special,” a concoction of hot chocolate, Copa de Oro coffee liqueur and Wild Turkey as we sit in front of the roaring fire. This not only takes the edge off but, consumed at nearly 11,000 feet, makes it a bit easier to catch an edge on the way back down the mountain.

Think snow!!!

Santa Fe New Mexico: Gay Life in Aldea

Santa Fe is becoming the Gay Mecca! More and more gay couples are moving to the area either to retire, to buy a second home or even a third. With prices at recent history lows, plenty of inventory and great interest rates, we have experienced a boom to our business in 2009 with gay couples purchasing real estate in Santa Fe like we have not seen in the past.  As 2010 begins we are already seeing signs the market is cycling up again.

Aldea is one of the Santa Fe neighborhoods that have experienced a boom in the last few years of home ownership by gays. The large number of LGBT homeowners who have taken advantage of this buyers market in Aldea have done so either as full time residents, or as part time residents by purchasing a second or third home with the hope of retiring in the next three, five or ten years and who did not want to miss out in this extraordinary buying opportunity.

The many same-sex couples enjoying the gay life in Santa Fe and that we have sold homes to,  have expressed to us their primary reasoning for purchasing in Aldea was the sense of community present in this neighborhood as well as pride of home ownership. Other factors in purchasing in this community that remain high on their lists was the diversity in product that Aldea had to offer such as town homes, garden homes, single family homes as well as estate homes too.

One such estate home that is currently available for purchase is the property located at 6 Calle Siete Casas in Aldea. Old World finishes and dramatic spaces grace this sophisticated and prestigious home. For the gay couple who enjoys expansive mountain views or prefers to have a private guest suite to share with others, this home has the best of everything Santa Fe has to offer. For the savvy buyer who doesn’t want to be left in the dust as the next housing upswing occurs or for more information on this property CLICK HERE.
